Newborn Care Visit Schedule

We have been caring for the children of the Santa Clarita Valley since 1972. If you have small children, chances are you will spend a lot of time with us over the years both in the office and on the phone. We want this to be a positive, supportive experience for you and your children. There is no question that we will enjoy your family, but we also want you to enjoy ours.

As parents ourselves, we know how hectic life can be, so we are committed to making our practice convenient and accessible for your family. We want you to feel confident that when you choose the ABC Pediatrics as your child’s primary care provider, you’ll be working with professionals that are patient, friendly, qualified, experienced and caring. We pride ourselves on a knowledgeable “whole child” approach to the practice of pediatrics. We recognize that children grow up as part of a family and a community and that keeping them healthy means tending to their emotional as well as their physical health.

  • What should we bring for our first appointment?

    If you’re preparing for your child’s first visit, there are a few things you’ll need.

    Please provide the following information when you arrive for your visit:

    • Insurance cards
    • Complete immunization records
    • Medical records from your previous pediatrician
  • Is your office accepting new patients?
    Yes! We always welcome new patients. Contact our office for additional information or request an appointment.
  • Why does my child need to receive vaccinations?
    Immunizations are a series of shots given to children at different ages to help ward off serious, and potentially fatal, childhood diseases. Making sure your child receives immunizations when scheduled is the best way to help protect your child from potentially fatal diseases. According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, vaccinations have reduced the number of infections from vaccine-preventable diseases by more than 90%. If you’re apprehensive about vaccinations, please do not hesitate to contact our office.
  • What are well-child visits?

    Well-child visits are also a good time for parents to raise questions and concerns about a child’s development, behavior, nutrition, safety, and overall well-being. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends this schedule for routine well-care visits:

    • 3 to 5 days
    • 1 month
    • 2 months
    • 4 months
    • 6 months
    • 9 months
    • 12 months
    • 15 months
    • 18 months
    • 24 months
    • 30 months
    • 3 years
    • 4 years

    And once every year thereafter for an annual health supervision visit that includes a physical exam as well as a developmental, behavioral, and learning assessment.

Newborn Care Visit Schedule

We follow the American Academy of Pediatrics well-child visit schedule, which is outlined below. This list includes the recommended age for each well child visit and what to expect during your child’s exam. Well child visits are important to ensure necessary preventative care, track your child’s growth and development, and establish a strong relationship with your pediatrician.

  • By 1 Week: Jaundice check, weight check, feeding issues, metabolic screening, newborn vaccines (if needed), parent vaccines (if needed)
  • 2 Weeks: Weight check, physical exam, newborn vaccines (if needed), parent vaccines (if needed)
  • 1 Month: Weight check, physical exam, vaccines (if needed)
  • 2, 4 & 6 Months: Physical exam, growth and development, vaccines (if needed)
  • 9 Months: Physical exam, growth and development, finger stick (hemoglobin), vaccines
  • 12 Months: Physical exam, growth and development, TB skin test (if needed), vaccines
