You Have Questions We Have the Answers
    • What should we bring for our first appointment?

If you’re preparing for your child’s first visit, there are a few things you’ll need.

Please provide the following information when you arrive for your visit:

      • Insurance cards
      • Complete immunization records
      • Medical records from your previous pediatrician
    • Is your office accepting new patients?
Yes! We always welcome new patients. Contact our office for additional information or request an appointment.
    • Why does my child need to receive vaccinations?
Immunizations are a series of shots given to children at different ages to help ward off serious, and potentially fatal, childhood diseases. Making sure your child receives immunizations when scheduled is the best way to help protect your child from potentially fatal diseases. According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, vaccinations have reduced the number of infections from vaccine-preventable diseases by more than 90%. If you’re apprehensive about vaccinations, please do not hesitate to contact our office.
    • What are well-child visits?

Well-child visits are also a good time for parents to raise questions and concerns about a child’s development, behavior, nutrition, safety, and overall well-being. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends this schedule for routine well-care visits:

      • 3 to 5 days
      • 1 month
      • 2 months
      • 4 months
      • 6 months
      • 9 months
      • 12 months
      • 15 months
      • 18 months
      • 24 months
      • 30 months
      • 3 years
      • 4 years

And once every year thereafter for an annual health supervision visit that includes a physical exam as well as a developmental, behavioral, and learning assessment.

    Well-Child Care Visits

Handling Care From Infancy Through Adolescence

Going to the pediatrician should not only be for sick visits. At ABC Pediatrics, we follow the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) guidelines for Well-Child Care Visits. We have also included a link below to a set of age-appropriate pre-visit questionnaires. You will notice the questions focus on developmental milestones, nutrition, safety, your child and family’s emotional well-being, and recommendations from the American Academy of Pediatrics.

The benefits of well-child visits include:

    • Prevention: Your child gets scheduled immunizations to prevent illness. You also can ask your pediatrician about nutrition and safety in the home and at school.
    • Tracking growth and development: See how much your child has grown in the time since your last visit and talk with your doctor about your child’s development. You can discuss your child’s milestones, social behaviors, and learning.
    • Raising concerns: Make a list of topics you want to talk about with your child’s pediatrician such as development, behavior, sleep, eating or getting along with other family members. Bring your top three to five questions or concerns with you to talk with your pediatrician at the start of the visit.
    • Team approach: Regular visits create strong, trustworthy relationships among pediatrician, parent and child. The AAP recommends well-child visits as a way for pediatricians and parents to serve the needs of children. This team approach helps develop optimal physical, mental, and social health of a child.
